SERVICE AGREEMENT

Terms of Service

The rules for using Hello Shanghai's guide, social, meetup, chat, event, membership, and paid-access features.

Effective 24 July 2026Last updated 24 July 2026Version 2026-07-24
These Terms do not remove or limit mandatory rights available under applicable law.

1. Agreement and eligibility

These Terms govern your use of Hello Shanghai. By creating an account or continuing after a policy update, you agree to these Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Community Rules.

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must provide accurate account information and keep login credentials secure.
  • You may use only your own account and may not sell, transfer, automate, or share it.

2. What Hello Shanghai provides

Hello Shanghai provides a city guide, profile discovery, connection requests, private chat, meetups, event information, saved plans, notifications, membership tools, and optional paid access. Features may change during the beta period.

The service is not an emergency service, government service, employment agency, medical provider, legal adviser, immigration adviser, dating guarantee, travel agent, venue operator, or meetup organizer unless a specific item clearly says otherwise.

3. Your responsibilities

  • Follow the Community Rules and all applicable laws.
  • Respect consent, privacy, personal boundaries, and other users' right to disengage.
  • Check meetup, venue, ticket, entry, age, identification, transport, price, and safety details independently before relying on them.
  • Do not send money to users or hosts unless you understand who receives it, what it covers, and the refund arrangement.
  • Use reasonable personal-safety precautions when meeting anyone offline.

4. User content

You keep ownership of content you submit. You grant Hello Shanghai a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, format, and process that content only as needed to operate, secure, moderate, and improve the service.

You confirm that you have the right to submit the content and that it does not violate another person's privacy, intellectual property, safety, or legal rights. You may not scrape, copy, or commercially reuse other users' information.

5. Moderation and enforcement

We may review reports and relevant records; limit visibility; remove content; cancel meetups; restrict messaging; suspend or delete accounts; preserve evidence; and contact appropriate authorities where reasonably necessary for safety, security, legal compliance, or enforcement.

Moderation decisions may be based on reports, system signals, available evidence, repeated conduct, and risk. We may act before completing a full review when immediate protection is reasonably necessary.

6. Meetups, venues, and third parties

User-hosted meetups are arranged by their hosts and participants, not by Hello Shanghai. Hosts are responsible for accurate details and lawful conduct. Hello Shanghai does not control participants, venues, promoters, transport providers, third-party websites, or direct payments between users.

Event and nightlife information can change without notice. A listing does not guarantee admission, availability, safety, quality, legality, or suitability. Verify important details with the venue or organizer.

7. Memberships and paid access

Prices, duration, included access, renewal terms, and payment provider will be shown before payment. Hello Shanghai does not currently operate automatic public payments unless the checkout screen expressly confirms that a verified payment provider is connected.

When payments are enabled, paid features are governed by these Terms and the Refund Policy. Mandatory consumer rights under applicable law are not excluded or limited by these Terms.

8. Availability and responsibility

We aim to operate the service carefully but cannot promise uninterrupted availability, complete accuracy, or that every user is who they claim to be. Features may be unavailable during maintenance, provider outages, security incidents, or technical failures.

Nothing in these Terms excludes responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to mandatory law, each party remains responsible for loss caused by its own unlawful conduct, fraud, intentional wrongdoing, or negligence as determined under applicable law.

9. Account closure and changes

You may stop using the service and delete your account. We may suspend or terminate access for serious or repeated violations, safety risks, fraud, legal requirements, or threats to the service. Provisions that logically survive account closure—including content rights already needed for records, safety evidence, transactions, disputes, and legal compliance—may continue.

We may update these Terms. Material updates will be shown in the app and may require renewed acceptance before continued use.

10. Applicable law and disputes

These Terms are interpreted under laws applicable in the People's Republic of China, without removing any mandatory rights available to you. Please contact us first so we can try to resolve a concern. If it cannot be resolved, either party may use the complaint, mediation, arbitration, or court procedures available under applicable law.
