Effective 24 July 2026Last updated 24 July 2026Version 2026-07-24

1. The basic standard

Hello Shanghai is for adults who want useful local information and respectful connection. Treat people as real human beings, respect a clear “no,” and do not make another person feel unsafe, pressured, deceived, or exploited.

2. Respect and consent

  • No harassment, threats, stalking, intimidation, bullying, humiliation, hate speech, discrimination, or targeted abuse.
  • No unsolicited sexual content, repeated romantic pressure, coercion, or treating friendship and language users as dating targets after they show no interest.
  • No sharing another person's private messages, photos, identity, location, workplace, contact details, or personal history without permission.
  • Stop contacting someone who blocks you, rejects a Hello, leaves a chat, or asks you to stop.

3. Honest identities and content

  • Use your own truthful identity and current information. No impersonation, catfishing, stolen photos, fake credentials, or misleading age.
  • No scams, pyramid schemes, fake jobs, illegal recruitment, deceptive promotions, spam, mass solicitation, or undisclosed commercial advertising.
  • No malware, credential requests, suspicious payment links, scraping, bots, or attempts to bypass security and access controls.

4. Safety and legality

  • No illegal goods, controlled substances, weapons, trafficking, sexual services, exploitation, gambling promotion, or instructions facilitating crime or serious harm.
  • No content that sexualizes minors or attempts to bring minors into this 18+ service.
  • No encouragement of self-harm, violence, dangerous challenges, drunk driving, or unsafe confrontation.
  • Do not present medical, legal, immigration, financial, or emergency advice as professionally verified when it is not.

5. Meetup rules

  • Describe the host, time, exact location, price, capacity, conditions, and purpose honestly.
  • Do not change a free meetup into a paid event after people join without clear notice and consent.
  • No hidden sales pitch, recruitment funnel, discrimination, coercive drinking, unsafe venue, or pressure to move to a private location.
  • Hosts must respond responsibly to safety concerns and may remove disruptive participants. Participants must follow lawful venue and host rules.
  • Direct host payments are outside Hello Shanghai. Never demand deposits or transfers without clear written terms.

6. Reporting and evidence

Use Block and Report when conduct violates these rules. Provide concise facts and relevant context. Do not submit knowingly false or retaliatory reports. For immediate danger, contact local emergency services rather than relying on the app.

7. Enforcement

Depending on severity and history, action may include a warning, content removal, meetup cancellation, messaging restriction, reduced visibility, temporary suspension, permanent account deletion, preservation of evidence, or referral to relevant authorities.

Serious risks may lead to immediate action without a prior warning. Creating another account to evade enforcement is prohibited.
